On the days I have off from work we always try do get outside. However, finiding FREE things to do besides going to the Como Zoo every day are hard to come by. Lately I have been setting up the sprinkler in the backyard which Clara loves (but only when I run through it with her). She would much rather steal my towel and lay on my chair when I'm not looking ;)
We've been debating on having Clara's hair cut this summer. It's been hanging in her face and she rarely lets me put pig tails in it anymore so I took matters into my own hands...she now has bangs. Turns out that there were about 13 hairs total that were actually in her eyes so it wasn't something I could save and I'm not considering this her first haircut.
We pulled out the infant car seat the other night so we could loan it to some friends here from Hawaaii. Clara took one look at it and said "MINE!" So she sat in it, read books and ate goldfish. Ahh, the life of a toddler.
A few weeks ago at the lake there was a get together and Clara got to hang out with her rarely seen friend Ellie. I think she is about 18 months older than Clara but they became best buds that night...the only two little girls at the lake among 8 little boys.
About 4 weeks ago Clara climbed out of her crib (and didn't have a graceful fall). That afternoon we turned her crib into the toddler bed and bedtime has been a nightmare ever since. Coupled with the "terrible twos" it hasn't been the best phase we've seen out of her and hopefully it's just that, "A Phase". Yeah, she looks all cute sitting there in the big girl bed. Sleeping in it...NOT SO MUCH!Story time with Grammy and Pop-Pop at the lake

A couple of ideas for fun free things to do outside:
1. Minnehaha Falls Park has a children's wading pool in the Wabun Picnic area. Look it up, she'll love it! There's a playground there, too.
2. I believe Lake Phalen, Lake Harriet and several others have nice beaches that are public and free. White Bear Lake might have one, too. Spend a morning playing in the sand and splashing in the water. Fort Snelling is our favorite beach, but that costs $25/year. However, I do think it's one of the best deals around.
3. Have you taken Clara to the St. Paul public library yet? They have lots of wonderful free programs (story time, movie hour, etc.). Get yourselves a library card, and let her pick out some of her own books.
Just some things I used to do with the boys when I was at home in the summers.
Love the pictures and the updates! She's a doll.
